Multi-Hit Protection
When a bullet impacts a monolithic ceramic plate, cracks extend in all directions from the point of impact. These cracks reduce the ballistic efficacy of the plate with follow-on shots. This is most severe at the apex (circled).
With Verco’s imbricated armor, only the impacted tile is damaged, the remaining are pristine.

UrbanShieldMH NIJ Level III Certification Test
The NIJ Standard 0101.06 for imbricated armor (Admin Clarif. 2015:01) is much more rigorous than for monolithic plates: 18 BFS (back face signature) panels (4 required for monolithic plates).
The first two shots per panel are orthogonal at muzzle velocity. The panels must show no perforations or excessive BFS (>44 mm).
The next four shots are angled shots, attempting to perforate between the imbricated tiles
Results: All 72 oblique shots showed no perforation.
Ballistic Limit Testing
Ballistic limit (BL) testing searches for the velocity at which the armor exhibits a 50% likelihood of perforation (V50). Passing BL testing for imbricated armor requires 120 shots to demonstrate a 95% confidence that there will be no perforation at muzzle velocity.
Ballistic limit testing on UrbanShieldMH identified a V5 (velocity at which 5% of rounds are expected to perforate) of 3133 fps, far exceeding NIJ Level III criteria of 2780 fps ± 30.

Verco is the only company to have earned NIJ Level III Certification (Admin. Clarif. 2015:01) for imbricated armor.
